			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We all have a different Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). BMR = calories your body burns in a given day at complete rest (as if you were lying in bed all day). A higher BMR allows you to burn more calories at rest. which will ensure you burn more calories while active.</p>
<p>Many popular diets (Atkins, South Beach, Zone, <a  href="http://www.weightlosspointlist.com/food-points/Weight-Watch">Weight Watch</a>ers, etc) call for restriction of either macronutrients (carbs, fats, protein) or calories. That may sound good but restricting your body of the macronutrients and calories that it needs actually slows your metabolism (your body&#8217;s engine). The slower your metabolism is, the fewer calories you will burn at rest. The ultimate goal is to burn more calories at rest.</p>
<p>So how do we achieve a high BMR? By adding muscle! Adding just 1lb of lean muscle mass burns an additional 35-50 calories a day, AT REST! 10lb muscle gain = 350-500 cal/day burned without doing anything. Adding lean muscle should be apart of any healthy <a  href="http://www.weightlosspointlist.com/food-points/weight-loss">Weight Loss</a> plan.</p>
<p>But can&#8217;t we build muscle while restricting nutrients and/or calories? Fact: restricting calories in your diet will lead to hunger. Your body needs a constant flow of energy. if it cannot find the source in digestion it will break down muscle tissue. This is the reason you feel &#8220;flabby&#8221; when you go on a low calorie diet.</p>
<p>How do we add more muscle? It may sound clich, but eating well and working out is the key. Eat a balanced diet consisting of 55% carbohydrates (100% whole grains, cereals, etc), 25% fat (olive oil, fish, eggs) and 30% protein (chicken and other lean meats, nuts, legumes) PLUS weight training 3-4 days a week. This will leave you lighter and leaner without starving your body of the important nutrients that it needs to do its job.</p>
<p>So the bottom line is, simply cutting calories isn&#8217;t the best way to achieve a great body. The nutrition you feed your body help it work properly. It needs calories to maintain health. No, your weight loss results won&#8217;t be as dramatic initially, but they will sustain much longer without &#8220;yo-yoing&#8221;.</p>
<p>Lasting results will happen when your body receives the proper nutrition on a regular basis. To keep and maintain a great body requires not only physical activity but a lifestyle change which include nutrition.</p>

<p>During the initial phase you eat according to your habits. You are permitted three meals and three snacks daily. If you want a snack, hold dessert after the meal. You are the judge of the appropriate portion size. This diet comes with a long list of favored and forbidden foods during the first phase. While most vegetables are allowed, fruits are forbidden during this phase. Bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, and all alcohol are also out. In phase 2 all fruits are allowed as are bread, pasta, and rice provided that they are whole-grain. Dieters may enjoy one or two glasses of red wine per day with meals or just after the meal. Other alcoholic beverages and wine coolers are no-nos. During phase 3 you develop life-long eating habits. If you put back on lost weight you may return to phase 1 for a week or two.</p>
<p>An advantage of the Miami Diet is the reduced cholesterol and triglyceride level. It is efficient in the short term. But there are many forbidden foods. This can be a hard diet to follow.</p>
<p>Here are two sample menus:<br />
<strong>Menu 1</strong><br />
(Phase 1) Breakfast: 150 milliliters (about 5 ounces) of vegetable juice. A mushroom and bacon omelet. Tea or coffee.<br />
Lunch: Nicoise salad. 75 grams of skimmed curd cheese. Celery stalk with light melted cheese.<br />
Supper: Cucumber salad. Fish on a skewer. Pumpkin puree. Almond cream with ricotta cheese.</p>
<p><strong>Menu 2</strong><br />
(Phase 2) Breakfast: 50 grams of oatmeal. 150 milliliters of skim milk. 110 grams of strawberries. Tea or coffee.<br />
Lunch: Greek salad. Skim milk yogurt.<br />
Supper: Tomato salad. Rump steak. Steamed broccoli.</p>

<p><strong>Weight Watchers Point Guide &#8211; A Very Useful Tool</strong></p>

<p>The Weight Watchers Point Guide is a booklet that members receive  upon signing up to the Program at one of their local centers. It is made  up of a list of Point Values that have been assigned to every day  foods. It is a essential piece of the Weight Watchers Plan. Along with  the Point Guide, members receive a Point Calculator and Daily Food  Journal to record the foods and Points consumed. The Point Guide is a  useful tool that members use to determine Food Points in foods that do  not have nutrition labels. Things like Meats, Fruits, Eggs and other  items that generally do not come with labels. If a food does come in a  package with a nutrition label, then the Point Calculator is use to  determine the Points. The number of Points a food has is calculated by  factoring in the amount of Calories, Fat, and Fiber a food has. This is  them put into a formula and a Point Value is assigned. The higher the  fiber and the lower the fat the fewer amount of Points are calculated.  This is a much more accurate method to assess the Point Value. The  Points Guide also contains many combination foods such as Spaghetti and  Meatballs, Pizza, and other types of entrees.</p>
<p>Weight Watchers  Points are a trademark of Weight Watchers International, however if you  search the internet, the formula for calculating Points in a food can be  found easily. There are many Unofficial sources that list food Points,  and contain many Recipes that state the Point Count. These are not  endorsed or reviewed by Weight Watchers International and the accuracy  can not be verified, however they can be a good resource to use if you  want to follow the Program at home without attending Meetings or Paying  the weekly Membership Fee.</p>

<p style="font-weight: bold; text-align: center">How I Lost Over 140 Pounds All Naturally</p>

<p>I have had a big change of lifestyle and size! I have gone from squeezing into a size 26 to an average size 4. A change in my diet, the way I feel about food and love for myself has made all the difference. My thoughts about food and myself were both negatively impacted during early childhood. As a young child, I always felt I did not have enough to eat. My mother had divorced when I was young and we relocated from Brooklyn, New York to St. George, South Carolina. However, my mother struggled to work and raise four children. We often went without breakfast and in general, food was limited in our home. A visit to my grandmother&rsquo;s house was like a big visit to the grocery store. I never wanted to leave there. Food was plentiful and packed with sugar and carbohydrates such as breads and macaroni and cheese. I consumed it all.</p>
<p>When I was 8 years-old, a family member molested me. This terrible experience took away my innocence and tainted the way I felt about the opposite sex and myself. I thought food was the one thing that I could control. The truth is it began to control me. I was thin until I got married. During my first pregnancy, I ate for two and gained 96 pounds. After the baby arrived, I had problems losing the weight so I just kept overeating to hide my pain.</p>

<p>My ex-husband was abusive, mentally, emotionally, economically and physically which kept my self-esteem very low. As I gained weight, he would call me names and I began to believe all the horrible things he said about me. This led to more unhealthy food consumption and weight gain. I did not want any attention from the opposite sex I would binge eat on all types of fast foods but my favorite was triple cheeseburgers and fries. In addition to the heavy fast food diet, every day I would cook and eat full course meals.</p>
<p>Saturday&rsquo;s meals included huge breakfasts of ham, bacon, French toast, grits and more. I guess I was making up for the lack of breakfast during my childhood. I would eat it all. The more I ate, the less I exercised. I had been very athletic in high school and had to maintain an exercise regiment while in the military. I knew I had the ability to exercise and kept saying I could lose the weight, but never made the effort to do so. Instead, I continued to eat excessively and pack on the pounds. Food was my comforter when I was lonely or depressed. It became a personal reward when I had accomplished something big.</p>
<p>I could not believe how much weight I had gained and that began to affect me. On a visit to my hometown in South Carolina after being away in the military for almost 10 years, my former physical education teacher remarked that he could not believe how fat I had become. I was the high school queen in 1982 for God&rsquo;s sakes and had now ballooned to 240 pounds. I wanted to do something about it but really did not have the tools to be successful at that time.</p>
<p>I had previously tried many diets including the Beverly Hills Diet, Atkins, Weight Watchers, Jennie Craig and more. I 1d3c would go on fitness regiments I learned in the military and watched the fitness guru, Gilad&rsquo;s tapes to sculpt the perfect body (over and over again). Unfortunately, within a few weeks or months, I started back with the fast food. I would put cheese and ketchup on everything. My biggest weaknesses were bread, my grandmother&rsquo;s cakes, Aunt Ruth&rsquo;s Lemon Meringue pie (which she seemingly made for me every weekend from age 7 to 17), homemade biscuits, flaky pie crusts, homemade cookies and homemade bread that had to be drenched in butter with lots of dill weed. Any weight that I was able to lose quickly returned.</p>
<p>My liberation day was February 6, 2006. A friend introduced me to a holistic doctor who would change and save my life. He gave me a plan to regain my health and self-esteem. The plan was rigid, but it helped me <a  href="http://www.weightlosspointlist.com/food-points/lose-weight">Lose Weight</a>, cured my diabetes and made me feel good. It included education, discipline, herbal vitamins and supplements and the biggest challenge was the elimination of foods (my &ldquo;Foods to Avoid&rdquo; list) such as: vinegar, sweeteners/honey/sugar, fruit juices, dried fruits, grapes and raisins, coffee, wheat/corn/yeast/four, wine, beer, cheese/milk, carbonated drinks, fried foods and ice cold drinks. The plan also included taking fish oil to keep my heart pumping and my skin tight during the <a  href="http://www.weightlosspointlist.com/food-points/weight-loss">Weight Loss</a>. By the fall of the year, eight months later, I had lost 140 pounds! I have two more phases to complete and I will be done. Maintenance is very low. If I eat something from the &ldquo;Foods to Avoid&rdquo; list by mistake, I usually cleanse that night with a colon cleanser.</p>

<p>Understanding how the body works and how food affects it was beneficial to me. Knowing what foods to avoid helped me successfully meet my weight loss goals. Where I used to eat a pint of butter pecan ice cream at night, I now eat 3 to 4 red grapefruit as a midnight snack. I eat lots of nuts and I find now my system craves what it is lacking. I eat cashews by the pound, I eat Fuji apples, navel oranges, salads, any kind of meat (ostrich and buffalo digests the quickest) I want, rice, potatoes, salads and plenty of fruit and vegetables. In order to stay on my plan, I have created a variety of dishes using alternative ingredients to some of my favorite dishes and recipes and as a result I have accumulated over six cookbooks geared toward people who are pre-diabetic, chronic diabetic or a juvenile diabetic as I was cured of diabetes during the weight loss. The recipes can be used by anyone who wants to eat and cook more healthier.</p>
<p>While eating out, I usually ask the wait staff to explain my &ldquo;diet&rdquo; to the chef and we come up with some very creative dishes as well. My confidence is higher and I feel better about everything. The investment in the herbal supplements recommended by the doctor was a wise investment. I am pleased beyond words with the results. Just because a person does not have over 100 pounds to lose, does not mean that they are necessarily healthy. I have friends who are thin but have tons of health challenges as does the rest of the world, they need help too! Women, men and children struggle every day with the question of weight. Children are teased every day on the playground about being fat. The weight is just a signal sometimes of what else is wrong, emotionally, psychologically or otherwise.</p>
<p>My goal with Eating To Live! books, tv shows, radio shows, cookbooks, internet and more, is to show everyone &ndash; from the girl next door fighting with anorexia nervosa to the chairman of the board drinking pepto bismol in a coffee mug &ndash; how improving the way they eat can have an impact on everything from their career goals to their overall mood.</p>
<p>Cleansing the colon does wonders from getting out of the bed without being depressed to happily making love to your significant other. By learning how to eat to live, within the confines of their own body type and makeup, anyone reading this upcoming book will be able to exude the same confidence I do. And of course, I&rsquo;ll use examples from my &ldquo;Foods To Avoid&rdquo; list showing how I have been molded and shaped. It took me one day to lose 8 pounds (of water), 3 months to lose 67 pounds and 8 months to lose 140 pounds (without flabby skin).</p>
<p>As a guest on BET&rsquo;s Meet the Faith recently, the show&rsquo;s host, Dr. Ian Smith remarked how the &ldquo;transformation&rdquo; has to occur from the inside out to become long withstanding. My message and my book will be targeted toward women, men and children who need to eat healthier and want to lose the weight. So many of who are craving advice, not only on how to lose the weight but how to develop an eating style of their own that helps them to regain their confidence. I now know that food is not a cure for depression or loneliness and I do not need an excuse to eat. A solid plan and personal disciple put me on the right tract. Instead of living to eat, I now eat to live and it feels great!</p>
